Which Window Treatments Help With Privacy the Most?
Your house is your castle, and if you think like the majority of homeowners, finding window treatments in Houston that offer privacy and noise control to maintain your sanctuary is a top consideration. Any window treatment is better than a naked window. Yet there are some window treatments that offer more privacy than others, especially on nontraditional windows.
Providing Privacy on Windows That Are Hard to Cover
Most large, rectangular windows in your house are simple to cover with almost any window treatment including blinds, shades, or shutters in Houston.
You might encounter some situations when you need a particular kind of window treatment to get the privacy you want. These could be:
-
Bathroom windows where water and humidity may cause problems for fabric window treatments.
-
Entryway sidelights that are tall and skinny where window treatments can be knocked around when you use the door.
-
Specialty-shape windows such as eyebrows, round windows, bow windows, etc., where conventional store-bought blinds and curtains can’t cover your window without sacrificing the beauty of the window’s unique shape.
-
Large windows that are hard to reach such as second-story foyer windows.
In these instances, you want window treatments that go the extra mile to provide privacy to your space.
As a bonus, find window treatments that can block sound to keep random noise outside and keep inside noise inside.
The Window Treatments That Give You The Most Privacy
The window treatments we recommend most for privacy are Polywood® plantation shutters. Plantation shutters are able to fully close, for when blocking all the light and sound you can is what you want. When you want to let light in and see outside, just tilt the louvers. For taller windows, you can always position the louvers at an angle to let light in while still protecting your privacy.
Indoor shutters are also great for specialty-shaped windows because they can be customized to fit any shape or size. And since Polywood shutters are moisture resistant, they’re perfect for bathrooms.
Another window treatment that helps with privacy is roller shades. Roller shades take up very little space above the window, but are easily pulled down to prevent any views from outside your home. Though they can’t be custom-made to fit unique window shapes, you can find roller shapes made from water resistant material for areas like your bathrooms.
Window Treatments that Don’t Protect Your Privacy
While any window covering gives you at least some privacy, there are a few that aren’t as great as those we’ve mentioned. The first is sheer curtains. Sheer curtains were popular years ago and can add a light feeling to a room. However they’re fairly translucent and can be seen through fairly easily, especially when it’s dark out.
Another product that isn’t great for privacy are cheap or bulky blinds, which can break and/or get stuck at a certain angle. If you can’t completely close the blinds due to breakage, then they’re not providing much privacy at all.
