This standard requires almost all window treatments sold in the US to have cordless designs or have cords intentionally constructed with safety devices. A New Safety Standard For Window Covers
The Window Covering Manufacturers Association and American National Standards Institute issued an updated safety benchmark for window covering products. ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 is a precaution that provides new requirements for window treatments that “reduce the possibility of injury, including strangulation, to young children from the bead chain, cord, or any type of flexible loop.”
Beginning June 1, 2024, window covers sold in the USA have to meet this new safety standard. Most products will convert to cordless designs. Treatments that use a continuous loop must include a regulated tension device to prevent the loop from becoming a strangulation hazard. These requirements will greatly reduce the chance of window treatment cord injuries and fatalities among little ones.
